Remember to actually listen

my notes ( ? )

I used to be better at listening. I used to really try, humbly believing (rightly) that the other person's perspective and experience were at least as interesting and useful for me to understand as mine were to project. Something happened a few years ago, I seemed to drop out of that habit. Perhaps because I found myself among people who talked and talked and talked and didn't listen to me. But that's a cop-out. Now along comes Brian Solis to remind me: "We're really good at talking. We're especially good at talking about ourselves. I'm not so sure we're that good at listening. Take a moment today to watch a conversation from a distance. Observe what happens when one person talks...what is the other person's facial expression? What are their mannerisms. You may just notice that often, people are ready to respond before the person talking has finished." - The Internet is Big and It Basically Wants to Kill You | LinkedIn Will try harder.
