A convincing argument from paragraph one: "You would never ever in a million years build your own CRM system or custom CMS — or in most cases, your own LLM. ... yet, everywhere I look, I see IT departments convincing themselves that building their own RAG-based chat is somehow different. It’s not. It’s actually worse."
The author then enumerates why, in gory detail.
The underlying point is that individual IT teams will have enormous problems keeping up with platforms which more and more enterprises are adopting, for the same reasons individual IT teams are not reinventing wordprocessors, spreadsheets, or CMSs.
There are, of course, specific organisations to which this may not apply.
