my notes ( ? )

"A simple, open protocol that enables a truly censorship-resistant and global social network."

They're clearly gunning for ActivityPub, with a secondary page entitled Why isn't Mastodon good enough? The key point made is that while Mastodon was OK when "server owners could be trusted to be cooperative, but it doesn't really address the crucial issue of censorship."

My experience echoed the point regarding the missing business model: without "clear incentives ... servers... tend to be run by enthusiasts ... [so] users are subject to the despotism of a single person... [and] servers ... are often abandoned."

Other issues range from the fact that "User identities are attached to domains ... controlled by third-parties ... [who] can ban you, just like centralized social media platforms... Migration between servers is difficult ... ActivityPub is complex and hard to implement... data duplication across servers".
