Mapping Tools4Thought using collective intelligence tools

my notes ( ? )

The last of my 1/1/2023 bundle of 5 posts introduces a first pilot project into exploring and demonstrating decentralised solutions to collective intelligence.

The knowledge domain is Tools for Thought (TfTs), so the end result will be a map of the TfT landscape, which "is forbidding to newcomers, with software still aimed at early adopters, and the subculture buzzing with competing visions advanced by people vying for clicks... A map of this landscape would help newcomers identify which combination of tools and practices would help them reach 80% of the benefits with only 20% of the effort".

But that's just the end product: how we create this map is where things get really interesting. We're using massive.wiki, a decentralised approach to linking together tools for thought and publishing the result. As such massive.wiki provides an early example of some of the features required to create a decentralised ecosystem for collective intelligence.

There are some nice synergies in this approach:

  • this and followup projects will hopefully move us a step towards bootstrapping the ecosystem,
  • while the map will help people adopt tools for thought, which create the raw material for collective intelligence.
