Echoing (unconsciously!) my thoughts of a year ago, Mike Masnick's recap opens with "It really does feel like the early days of the web... “we can just build things” is real... opening up a wonderful level of creativity... SO MUCH NEW STUFF".

Apart from the general celebration;

  • while the Atmosphere is not just Bluesky, the ecosystem is unbalanced: "you could definitely feel a tension between Bluesky and “not Bluesky.” ... could do real damage if it festers."
  • people are starting to see the Atmosphere's "revolutionary" potential: "I really see this as our next best chance to rebuild the web"
  • the money problem's not sorted
  • "Attie represents something incredibly powerful", although how and what was presented " likely distorted the overall vision"

Conclusion: "The internet is made of people ... enabling an open social standard that can’t be captured by a few giant companies is the key. ... we’re seeing the early versions of what that open social future could look like in the Atmosphere.
